Description:

The NIH Office of Research Infrastructure Programs (ORIP) manages the S10 programs and issues Funding Opportunity Announcements (FOAs) with one annual receipt date. The next deadline is June 1, 2023. Active FOAs are:

  • PAR-22-081 Basic Instrumentation Grant Program (BIG) funds grant awards in the $25,000 to $250,000 range.
  • PAR-22-080 Shared Instrumentation Grant Program (SIG) funds grant awards in the $50,000 to $600,000 range.
  • PAR-22-079 High-End Instrumentation Grant Program (HEI) funds grant awards in the $600,001 to $2,000,000 range.

ORIP just celebrated the 40th anniversary of the S10 program which has provided significant benefit to many of our members and their institutions. Although many people have heard about the Shared Instrument Grant S10 grant, quite a few have little-to-no direct experience pursuing this funding opportunity. In this workshop, we will discuss all aspects of the S10 process, offering suggestions and lessons learned where appropriate.

Day 1 will focus on laying the foundation of the application, including: determining if sufficient need exists for a new instrument; evaluating options for vendors and models; assembling a list of potential users; finding out who you should talk to at your institution; assessing the necessity of instrument demonstrations and/or preliminary data.

Day 2 will center around the proposal contents where we will go over the various sections, what should be included and where, key facility and institutional data and statistics to report. If time permits, we will also summarize required NIH post award reporting.

Please join us for this two-part workshop if you are considering an S10 grant application for 2023.
