RG/Comm Member of the year 2013

The ABRF Robert A. Welch Outstanding Research Group/Committee Member of The Year recognizes the significant contributions of members of the ABRF Research Groups and Committees. The 2013 award will be presented to Kevin Knudtson.

Kevin Knudtson, Ph.D., is the Director of the DNA Facility Research Division at the Iowa Institute of Human Genetics and the Director of the Carver College of Medicine DNA Core Facility at the University of Iowa. He is also a member of the Executive Committee of the Center for Biostatistics and Computational Biology of the University of Iowa. He obtained his Ph.D.from Iowa State University and was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Utah School of Medicine.
Kevin has been a significant contributor to the genomics core community and truly exemplifies the ABRF spirit of volunteerism. He has been an ABRF member since 1997, has been a key contributor to many ABRF research studies and educational initiatives, and has served the society in many key leadership roles. Kevin has been an organizer of an ABRF meeting’s Satellite Educational Workshop on Next Generation Sequencing. He has been a member of three ABRF Research Groups, including the DNA Sequencing Research Group (DSRG), Microarrays Research Group (MARG), and Nucleic Acids Research Group (NARG). He served as the chair for the MARG and NARG during his tenure.He is currently an active member and the chair-elect of the ABRF Education Committee. In addition, Kevin was a founding member and is the current President of an ABRF Chapter: the Midwest Association of Core Directors (MWACD).
This Member of the Year Award is given in recognition of Kevin Knudtson’s contributions as an enthusiastic participant, tireless leader, valued colleague and outstanding member of the ABRF Research Groups and Committees.
