In core facilities, key personnel often have to do multi-tasking with client interface, sample storage, data management, and last but not the least sample tracking through different processing steps. Moreover, diversities in research projects and varied personalities of users add further complexity to this multi-faceted job. This session aims to educate core facility personnel on how to stay organized in this apparent chaos. There are free tools available for workspace organization—Microsoft Outlook to arrange communications and create tasks, Excel spreadsheets to track samples and record sample processing, free tools (e.g., Zoom, Outlook, Doodle) to schedule meetings, etc. This presentation will also focus on how to take the first step of getting organized, such that it is applicable for all core personnel regardless of their experience. The speaker, Dr. Pritha Bagchi, worked in CDC where she managed thousands of samples every month and she brought that experience as the Co-Director of the Emory Proteomics Core to her own facility. In this complimentary program, she will draw examples from her work life and share with you so that everyone can follow these proven steps to better organize their core facilities.
