This Virtual Town Hall will provide an overview of how ABRF and its members can participate in science policy and advocacy, along with more information on the range of resources available.  Participants will also learn how they can raise the profile of ABRF by joining FASEB task forces and committees that address specific policy issues.

Presenters:

    • Marie Adams, ABRF President
    • Nick Ambulos, ABRF Representative, FASEB Board of Directors
    • Naomi Charalambakis, Associate Director of Science Policy, FASEB
    • Andy Chitty, ABRF Representative, FASEB Science Policy Committee
    • Kevin Knudtson, ABRF Immediate Past President
    • Mark Lively, ABRF and FASEB Past President, current FASEB Audit Committee Chair

From the availability of research funding to reporting requirements on the use of animals in Core facilities, ABRF members are impacted by federal and state science policy and advocacy decisions every day.  How does ABRF ensure that its members’ interests are known, and their concerns heard by policy makers?

Join us for this upcoming discussion to learn more about ABRF’s policy activities, and how you can get involved.

Since 1997, ABRF has been a full member society within the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB).  FASEB is the leading voice of the scientific research community in Washington, with highly regarded experts who monitor ongoing policy discussions and issues within US agencies that fund scientific research, as well as the continuous legislative process, from appropriations to oversight, along with the ever-changing regulatory environment for federally funded research at academic institutions. FASEB provides opportunities for ABRF scientists to meet directly with the leadership of the U.S. Congress, the administration, and the upper leadership of federal agencies that regulate and fund our science. These include the National Institutes of Health; the National Science Foundation; the Department of Energy Office of Science; US Department of Agriculture; and others. Such meetings enable us to communicate directly with the leadership to guide decisions that directly affect funding and policy.

This Member Town Hall will provide an overview of how ABRF and its members can participate in science policy and advocacy, along with more information on the range of resources available.  Participants will also learn how they can raise the profile of ABRF by joining FASEB task forces and committees that address specific policy issues.
