The challenges of effective communication between scientific core staff and administrative staff are often seen as a reflection of contrasting backgrounds and conflicting priorities. Granted, the day-to-day operation and management of each respective department can appear a bit mystifying (and formidable) to those on the outside; however, successful workplace communication seldom relies on shared expertise. Often the focus on how we communicate ideas becomes just as crucial as the ideas and obstacles themselves, playing a significant role in how they’re perceived and acted upon at the interdepartmental level.

This effort requires a clear commitment from all members of the organization towards improving correspondence through best practices. By bringing core directors and administrators together to discuss these issues on a broader level, we aim to reveal common challenges and determine some of these best practices for effectively communicating across departments and units.
